Polyacrylamide (PAM) (CAS 9003-05-8) is a synthetic, high-molecular-weight polymer synthesized from acrylamide monomers. As a water-soluble resin, its physical form (powder, emulsion, or bead) and ionic charge character determine its specific operational mechanism in liquid-solid separation processes. PAM molecules interact with suspended colloidal particles via charge neutralization, polymer bridging, and hydrogen bonding.
Depending on the copolymerized functional group, PAM is synthesized into four major ionic variations:
